Russia Chechnya IS
Hava Beitermurzayeva, 22, seen at the house of her relative at the village Gekhy, outside Grozny, Russia, Tuesday, January 30, 2018.
She slipped away from her parents' home to marry an Islamic State soldier, whom she had met online, and wound up living in Raqqa, the terrorist group's capital city. "For a woman, the days went by like anywhere else, with cooking cleaning and shopping".
As the Islamic State collapsed last summer, Ms. Beitermurzayeva tried to escape with her baby boy, Amir, by paying a smuggler, but was caught at a Kurdish checkpoint. Russian authorities evacuated her from a camp in northeastern Syria. She doesn't know what became of her husband.
